Bakehouse Studios was established in 1991, when Quincy McLean was in need of a rehearsal space for his then band 'Blue Ruin'. The old York Street Studios were up for lease so a makeshift rehearsal room was quickly set up in the old bakery at 1 Bakehouse Lane in North Fitzroy it took another three years before it would be re-established as a recording studio.  York Street has its place in history with bands like Whirlywird, TISM, Primitive Calculators, Australian Crawl...18 years later the studio at Bakehouse Lane has hosted for recording and pre production legendry Australian and international musicians.

The early days saw  David McComb, Grant McLennan, Cosmic Psycos, The Avalanches, Spiderbait, Black Eyed Susans, Kim Salmon, Vicka & Linda, Deni Hynes, Pete Murray, Underground Lovers, Dead Star, The Dirty Three, Jane's Addiction, The Deftones and many others...

Some standout recent recordings to look for out of Bakehouse are: Lilith Lane, The Ukeladies, Kes Band, Laura Jean, Rob Snarski with Dan Luscombe, Laura Jean, Black Pony Express, Nathan Hollywood, Monty Sparrow, Kes band, Gentlemen of Fortune, Jessica Paige, Doll Squad with Steve Lucas, Zerafina Zara, Jarrard Brown.

Richmond was the next step, in a quirky old labyrinth of a building. nowdays a grand space for rehearsal, honoured patrons have been:
